As expected from the showcase title, this year’s Capcom TGS 2021 stream is all about Monster Hunter. From news about upcoming content updates for Monster Hunter Rise, a glimpse of info on Sunbreak, and the RPG spin-off Stories 2 roadmap details, here are all the things announced at Capcom’s Tokyo Game Show 2021 event.
TGS 2021 – Monster Hunter Rise News
Ghost ‘n Goblins and Sonic Collab Events
Releasing on October 29, the fifth and last Capcom Collab Event Quest for Monster Hunter Rise is Ghost ‘n Goblins. The armor will turn your Hunter into the knight Arthur and comes with unique animations: a special kunai throwing animation and a unique Quest Cleared pose. Although this is going to be the last Capcom Collab Event, the first cross-company collaboration is also going to be released soon. In November 2021, SEGA’s Sonic the Hedgehog will once again cross over into the series. Previously Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate already had a Sonic crossover event, but this time Rise‘s director Yasunori Ichinose promises that it will be a different event quest than before and the team is working hard to make it as “fun as possible.”
Paid Voice DLCs
Aside from the Collab Event Quests, Capcom is also adding two additional paid Hunter voice DLCs. For the English voice, the DLC features:
- SungWon “ProZD” Cho as Hibasa, Hamon the Blacksmith’s “number one disciple.”
- And Debra Wilson as Monju, Elder Fugen’s niece.
Meanwhile, for the Japanese voice, the upcoming Hunter voice DLC will feature (via Famitsu):
- Yoshimasa Hosoya as Hibasa. He is the original Japanese voice actor for Attack on Titan‘s Reiner Braun and Yamato “Matt” Ishida in the new Digimon tri anime saga.
- Riho Sugiyama as Monju. She voiced Minare Koda in the Wave, Listen to Me! anime series.
PC Version to be Released on January 2022
The PC version of Monster Hunter Rise is going to be released on January 12, 2022. The port supports 60 FPS, 4k resolution, high-resolution textures, advanced graphics settings, voice chat, optimized keyboard and mouse control, and ultrawide screen. Along with all previously released updates on Switch until the November 2021 patch. The free demo will be available on October 13, 2021. Although the base game got delayed, Monster Hunter: Sunbreak will instead be launched simultaneously for PC and Switch in summer 2022.
TGS 2021 – Monster Hunter: Sunbreak Updates
There wasn’t much new information about Monster Hunter: Sunbreak. Capcom only revealed the flagship Elder Dragon name, Malzeno, and one returning monster from the older games, Shogun Ceanataur. Debuted in Monster Hunter Dos (or Freedom 2 for anywhere outside Japan), it is a humongous crab-like Carapaceon creature that uses other monster’s skulls as its home. And lastly, series producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and Rise’s director Yasunori Ichinose talks a bit about Japanese folklore inspiration for both new and returning monsters in Monster Hunter Rise. From Tetranodon and kappa, Teostra and deity of death Yamaraja, to Valstrax and Halley’s Comet.
Starting at 15:18 on the video above, the Capcom TGS 2021 stream also shows a prerecorded concert playing Monster Hunter Rise music using classic Japanese instruments:
- Brave Hunters, vocal performance by Kanae Miyazaki and koto by Mana Yoshinaga.
- Calamitous Hellfire, biwa performance and narration by Kakushin Tomoyoshi.
- Barbarous Beast – Magnamalo, biwa by Nonoka Enomoto and shakuhachi by Akihisa Kominato.
- Bewitching Dance – Mizutsune, vocal performance by Yuki Kaneko and shamisen by Hideki Onoue.
- Breath of Ire: Rock Remix, vocal performance by Konomi Suzuki. The song will be released as music DLC.
