In an announcement that was teased earlier, Capcom is doing another collection of some classic games for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC: this time, it’s pulling from its history on the Nintendo Entertainment System with the Disney Afternoon Collection.
Coming as a digital-only release on April 18th for $19.99, the Disney Afternoon Collection features six NES-era 8-bit classics, updated with 1080p resolution and visuals, as well as “concept art, sketches, music, and other fun extras.” The Capcom website describes the titles included:
“Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers and Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2 – Bring in a friend for classic co-op Capcom platforming action as one of you plays as Chip, and the other as Dale.”
“Darkwing Duck – Jump in the shoes of superhero Darkwing Duck and fight crime with lots of charm and wits.”
“DuckTales and DuckTales 2 – Embark on classic treasure seeking adventures through exotic stages as the pogo master millionaire Scrooge McDuck.”
“TaleSpin – Take to the skies as rad pilot Baloo in a unique take on the shoot ’em up genre, where you get to change the direction of your plane at any time.”
Arguably, the most noteworthy inclusions in the collection are DuckTales 2 and Chip ‘n Dale Rescue Rangers 2, which were both released toward the end of the NES’ run and have since become incredibly rare and sought after by collectors.
The Disney Afternoon Collection retains the original 8-bit look, much like the Mega Man Legacy Collection did before it. It doesn’t include DuckTales Remastered, which was a full HD remake of the original DuckTales game released on consoles, PC and mobile devices in 2013.
Capcom also hasn’t yet announced if the game will eventually come to Nintendo Switch, although the console would most likely be able to handle it. We’ve reached out to Capcom for an answer and will update you when we hear back.
UPDATE: Nah. Capcom tells US Gamer “No other platforms are planned at this time,” which is odd considering all six of these titles first appeared on a Nintendo platform.
