Well, this is disappointing. The enjoyable mobile adaptation of Capcom’s Puzzle Fighter franchise is being shut down as of July 31, just eight months after its release. Capcom broke the bad news today on its blog.

Ahead of the shutdown, Puzzle Fighter will simply be pulled from the App Store and Google Play entirely on July 1. Capcom states that it’s being shut down to allow the developer behind Puzzle Fighter the time and resources to work on the Dead Rising franchise instead, for better or for worse. It’s bizarre to think that enough resources were being spent on the little Puzzle Fighter app that would affect the Dead Rising series so much, but that’s apparently what’s happening here.

If you have Puzzle Fighter and enjoy playing it, you’ll want to get as much as out of it as you can in the coming weeks. In-app purchases will be shut down on April 23, but anything you’ve bought in-game in the past can be used until the game shuts down entirely on July 1.

You’ll also get 10,000 in-game gem currency to spend on goodies before the shutdown, in addition to new characters and stages including Regina, Dr. Wily, and Ada Wong, as well as the Darminor and Uroboros areas. Regina and Dr. Wily are up for grabs today, but Ada Wong and the additional stages won’t be up until April 23.

This isn’t the end of Puzzle Fighter, however. There’s still the matter of the rating for a title with the same name on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in Europe. It’s not clear if the entire Puzzle Fighter brand has been canceled at this time or not, but it sure would be great if it were just jumping to consoles instead. RIP, Puzzle Fighter. We hardly knew ye.
