It has nearly been 30 years since Street Fighter hit the arcades in Japan and Capcom has announced a new compilation game to celebrate the series’ history.
Revealed at the beginning of the top eight for Street Fighter V at Capcom Cup 2017, Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection features a hefty amount of Street Fighter titles that originally appeared on arcades (prior to Street Fighter IV). Specifically, it contains the original Street Fighter, Street Fighter II, Street Fighter III and Alpha series.
Capcom promises to retain the feel of the arcade as well, with each game featuring “arcade perfect gameplay.” In addition, Street Fighter 2: Hyper Fighting, Street Fighter Alpha 3, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike and Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo will all have online play.
Street Fighter made its debut on Aug. 30, 1987, but it only started to rise to the status that it has today once Street Fighter II arrived four years later. Needless to say, the series has ballooned spectacularity since then, with it getting a series of sequels and spin-offs. And while the series is mostly played on consoles now, this collection will allow players to revisit the games that Street Fighter built its legacy off of.
The Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection will be releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Steam and Nintendo Switch in May 2018.
