During its reveal of the upcoming Dragonflight expansion, developer Blizzard Entertainment admitted it was behind the times. After having add-ons carry the load for well over a decade, the gaming behemoth will finally overhaul World of Warcraft’s UI.
Aside from modernizing the UI, Blizzard is finally making it customizable for users. Players will be able to move different elements of the HUD around the screen and customize options for each. Furthermore, players will be able to save, edit, and copy each layout. The game will then remember the layout based on the specialization the player is using.
This is a huge and much-needed leap forward for the tenured titan of gaming. Though it may seem like a small thing, this adds a good deal of agency for players. Other MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV have had this functionality for years, and oftentimes, players can take it for granted. But being able to manage to heal your raid and then immediately swap talents and UI to go take on battlegrounds? This new expansion is looking better and better.
