Pokémon GO is full of shiny Pokémon variants, and some are harder to come by than others. Staryu is a Generation One Pokémon that has had a shiny form in the game for quite some time, but the low spawn rate of this Pokémon has made it difficult to find and catch. There are a few ways players can increase their chances of finding a shiny Staryu in Pokémon GO.

How to catch a shiny Staryu in Pokémon GO?

The easiest way to get shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO is during Community Day events. Unfortunately, Staryu has not been featured in a Community Day event, so the next best thing is to catch the Pokémon during Spotlight Hours. Staryu received a Spotlight Hour on July 19, 2022, when Staryu’s spawn rate was drastically increased for one hour, allowing players to catch as many of the Pokémon as possible. It is unlikely that Staryu will receive a Spotlight Hour anytime soon, but it is possible for Niantic to circle back around to this Pokémon during a future event.

Aside from events, the only real way to increase the likelihood of catching a shiny Staryu is by catching the Pokémon in high numbers. Staryu are Water-type Pokémon, which means they’re more likely to spawn near bodies of water like lakes and rivers. Players should hunt for shiny Staryu in these areas.
