Battlefield 2042 is playable on various platforms and has cross-play and cross-gen support. Consequently, PS4 and PS5 players can play Battlefield 2042 together, but there’s a catch.
If you are a PS5 user, you can match your PS4 counterparts. To do so, you need to install the PS4 version of the game on your PS5, which you can do by following the steps below:
- Go to your PlayStation 5 Home Screen.Look for the Battlefield 2042 client and choose the three dots next to the Play Game icon. This will open a dropdown menu from which you need to choose Select Version.Install the PS4 version from there and then you are good to play with your PS4 friends.
Battlefield 2042 supports up to 128 players and larger PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S maps. However, due to hardware limitations, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles only support a maximum of 64 players in one match. This is why PC and the latest generation of consoles cannot pair with previous generation ones without losing some of the features.
Battlefield 2042 also provides several purchase options for different requirements and compatibilities. Furthermore, you can disable or enable cross-play in the game’s settings. Remember that disabling cross-play may result in longer matchmaking times, as you are limiting the number of players you can play with.
