With the new Witch Queen Campaign out now for Destiny 2, players are wondering if it is possible to play the game on the go. Valve has released the Steam Deck, a handheld device where gamers can play their Steam library. Destiny 2 is on Steam, and it would be very convenient for players to try out the Witch Queen while out and about. Only a certain selection of titles is compatible with the Steam Deck, which begs the question: Is Destiny 2 playable on the Steam Deck?

Bungie confirmed on the help page that Destiny 2 is not supported on the Steam Deck or any system utilizing Steam Play’s Proton unless Windows is installed and running. If a player tries to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck either through SteamOS or Proton, they will not be able to enter the game. The player will return to their game library shortly after.

Bungie also clarifies that any attempt to bypass Destiny 2’s incompatibility will be met with a game ban. It’s unfortunate for Steam users, especially now considering the launch of the game’s most ambitious campaign yet. While Destiny 2 may not be compatible with the Steam Deck, it is being reported that over 400 titles from the Steam Library will be accessible on the device.
