No one knows when the next Grand Theft Auto title will arrive, but at this point its assumed that the game will be arriving in 2013. When it does, GTA V will arrive to a new generation of gamers that are squarely focused on shooters on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Since the release of Grand Theft Auto 4, the Call of Duty franchise has dominated industry sales charts putting all others in its rear view each and every year since then. The biggest hit for Rockstar since the last GTA release was Red Dead Redemption, and even that game which went on to win multiple game of the year honors, was left in the dust by Activision’s shooter behemoth. Analysts have high hopes for Rockstar’s big franchise, as well as do fans.
Analysts have already begun speculating about the sales possibilities for GTA V, and if their estimates are correct, Rockstar has a very good shot at dethroning Call of Duty for the first time in five years. Without a release date, platforms, or many concrete details other than the setting, Rockstar has already generated huge buzz for this next game. The first trailer for GTA V was released almost a year ago, with news following that trickling in at a snail’s pace. Despite the lack of information, popularity and curiosity for this game remains high. This definitely signals that there is a significant amount of pent-up demand from gamers for a new type of experience, even if it is a familiar one.
