There have been quite a few rumors about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare getting supply drops and loot boxes, to the point that, as we’ve reported in the recent past, pre-orders have been severely harmed after they popped up on the net.
People don’t like supply drops and loot boxes right now, so as soon as they read something about those, they instantly feel a sense of repulsion from the game that sports them. It has happened with Star Wars Battlefront II, to a certain extent, and it might happen again.
However, Infinity Ward has made it clear that it is not working on anything like that, as noted by the Art Director Joel Emslie on Reddit and posted over to ResetEra.
“Sigh,” he wrote in disappointment. “There continues to be misinformed and incorrect info being pushed about Modern Warfare. What I can say right now is that we are definitely NOT working on any kind of supply drop or loot box system. Also, functional stuff is unlocked through GAMEPLAY.”
Before wrapping up his message, he let people know that “we’re planning to release info this week,” so expect everything about this topic to be crystal clear by the end of the week, which still is a few days away from the full release of the game.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is launching on October 25, 2019.
