In an act that can be considered the least surprising thing to hear about the franchise, Activision and Infinity Ward have officially announced that the next Call of Duty will be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 2022 (sequel to Modern Warfare 2019). The sequel was officially announced through a tweet showcasing the snazzy logo which you can find below.

While the tweet only gives us the logo and says this is the “new era” for Call of Duty, the video showcasing it pays homage to the green audio visualizers that were a clear staple of Modern Warfare 2 2009’s aesthetic. How much it’ll have to do with that game is currently unknown, though given how much Modern Warfare 2019 changed from the original, you can expect this to be starkly different while hosting many of the same heroes and villains. Though thankfully with past updates to Warzone, we can likely expect the introduction of characters like Ghost and Soap to carry over to the new installment.
Beyond that, we currently have no official release date for the upcoming game. It’s safe to assume though that the game will release this year on PC and consoles as has been a series tradition. It will also coincide with the currently planned “sequel” to Warzone, currently dubbed Warzone 2 by the community. According to another tweet from the official Call of Duty account, this Warzone sequel will be an all-new BR experience fit with a new playspace and an all-new sandbox mode. We’ll need to wait until later this year for more official details on that though.
