Call of Duty: Black Ops, in its short life, has lived up to the hype commercially. It is being reported that Activision sold a mind blowing 5.6 million copies of the FPS in just the first day of sales.
This makes sense considering that it displayed on my Xbox 360 last night that almost 3.5 million players were online and playing the newly released game. And aside from not being able to play with friends on Xbox 360, stuttering and stammering issues on the PC, and general deabauchery on the PS3, it appears that the consumer did just as well as the publisher in what is now the “biggest entertainment launch in history”.
That is of course if your idea of fun is watching rich people light your money on fire, or swimming around in it like Scrooge McDuck, entertainment.
Hopefully, Activision and Treyarch get their act together pretty quickly. While Call of Duty games have had launch issues in the past, this being their biggest to date has obviously got a lot of people disappointed if they can’t actually play the game.
Unfortunately, we didn’t hold off on our Black Ops review until a few days into launch. We most certainly aren’t as pleased with the game now as we were in pre-launch conditions.
