A classic weapon of the Zombies mode of the Call of Duty: Black Ops subfranchise, the Ray Gun is an astoundingly effective addition to an arsenal. In addition to massive direct damage, the Ray Gun also has great splash damage as well, making it a highly desired weapon in any round of Zombies in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. However, with this in mind, this means getting the weapon isn’t exactly something you can do rather commonly, so we’re compiling this guide to let you know how to get the weapon, what the best method is to get the weapon, and what your likely chances are of getting it with each method. People will default to the Mystery Box, generally, but it will likely require a lot of opens before you even get to it and that just makes it a little harder to get it that way so we’re providing some other options for you.
How to Get the Ray Gun
Mystery Box
Like I mentioned before, there are three primary ways to get the Ray Gun but the one way everyone will likely try without looking anything up is the Mystery Box. The Mystery Box will spawn in any one of six different locations and will show up visually as either a crate or a series of cinder blocks with a blue teddy bear on top – the blue teddy bear indicating a spawn point that currently doesn’t have a crate spawned there.
Mystery Crate Locations:
- Yard: at the starting area next to a tree.
- Omega Outpost: backroom at the Nacht der Untoten.
- Pond: near the exfil site.
- Crash Site: to the right of Jugger.
- Weapons Lab: next to the Keycard machine.
- Particle Accelerator: on the bottom floor.
- Medical Bay: on the second level of the Medical Bay room.
Each crate open costs 950 Essence, so if you’re going to rely on this method, expect to hoard as many points as possible, though you should keep in mind that this is probably the easiest method, especially if you’re specifically after a Ray Gun.
Dark Aether
If you move through to the Dark Aether, you can see a variety of purple crystals spawn around you. When you interact with these crystals, they will drop a variety of items, including a Ray Gun. However, this chance is very rare but considering you’re more likely to get ammo or perks and things like that from these crystals, it certainly doesn’t hurt to stick around them periodically to see what you can get because it likely won’t backfire.
Coffin Dance Easter Egg
While this one’s a bit more obscure and requires a bit more focused effort, it’s pretty funny and it almost guarantees a Ray Gun so it can definitely be worth the effort you make to go through it. This one would require you to build a Pack-a-Punch machine; once you do, you’ll be able to find these blue orbs strewn about in out-of-bounds spots nearby to the machine. You’ll need to find and shoot down five of them around the Particle Accelerator room; once that’s done you’ll be transported to a hidden room in the Dark Aether where a bunch of zombies will recreate the good old coffin dance meme I’m sure you’ve seen about a hundred million times on social media. Once that’s done, you’ll be transported back and a crate will spawn in front of you and the crate will always give you a Wonder Weapon, almost always giving you a Ray Gun.
