Bungie is making some big changes to Destiny 2 in the game’s next expansion, Beyond Light. One of the biggest changes on the way is the addition of new skill trees for the game’s three classes. The new abilities are all built on the idea of ice-based Stasis powers.
In their latest Blog Post, Bungie outlined the way these new Stasis Melee and Super abilities will work for the Hunter Class as well as the Grenade Abilities across all classes. The new Hunter Revenant class powers are ninja themed and revolve around throwing shurikens and summoning a pair of ice Kama blades named Silence and Squall. The new melee ability is called Withering Blade, an attack in which the Hunter throws an ice shuriken. Once thrown, Withering Blade ricochets off surfaces and enemies. Any enemies struck by the shuriken are slowed and damaged, and any enemy struck twice is frozen.
The new Stasis Super ability summons the Kama mentioned above blades, which can be thrown with different effects. When thrown, the Squall blade embeds itself in enemies or surfaces and detonates, causing an ice storm that tracks enemies. Silence, on the other hand, explodes on impact, freezing nearby enemies as with the new Titan Behemoth and Warlock Shadebinder classes, the Revenant class will be able to use the new Fragments and Aspects items. These new items allow players to modify and customize their class powers.
While the new Stasis Melee and Supers for the Titans, Hunters, and Warlocks are all different, the new Grenades are all shared across classes. Players will be able to choose Glacier, Coldsnap, and Duskfield grenades. Glacier grenades cause ice crystals to burst from whatever surface they contact. These crystals encase any enemies inside their area of effect, create cover or traversal platforms, and cause damage to surrounding enemies when destroyed. Coldsnap grenades create a wave of cold that can freeze up to three enemies. Duskfield grenades create an area of effect that slowly freezes any enemy inside.
Besides the new Destiny Content Vault, the new Stasis classes are the biggest change coming to Destiny 2 in the Beyond Light expansion this November. It remains to be seen how fans will respond to the changes Bungie is making.
