Sometimes I sit here for hours wondering what news I should bring to you guys, other times, something leaps out at me and I just have to bring it to you immediately. Today is one of the latter days as WWE icon Bret “The Hitman” Hart is set to star in a film alongside Corey Feldman, entitled Tales from the Dead Zone.
This news alone was enough to provoke many feelings. Fear, excitement, trepidation, confusion and any other words a thesaurus would bring up for these. The film was actually announced a few years back but went completely under my radar until a press release this week brought it to my attention.
Tales from the dead zone will be a horror movie throwback along the lines of Creepshow and Tales from the crypt. It’s an anthology movie that links four separate stories together. Director Barry J. Gillis has stated all four shorts have been filmed with the wrap around the story to be filmed this fall. The film itself is expected to release in 2020.
The director himself has obviously heard the comparisons to other movies and had this to say:
The movie will be Bret Hart’s debut film and I’m not going to judge him until it’s out. It’s not even unusual for an ex-wrestler to take up acting, we’ve had a plethora of stars do the same in the past. The Rock, Goldberg, Steve Austin, John Cena, Dave Bautista, Hulk Hogan, and many others, all with varying degrees of quality.
We get messages from people, who think it’s a disaster. It just boggles the mind. To me it’s been a great idea since day one. Both are true professionals, and great actors. I’m happy with their performances.”
