On Tuesday, July 26th, A24 released the first look image of Darren Aronofsky’s film The Whale. A still of Brendan Fraser was released from The Whale movie and shows the huge transformation Fraser had to undergo to look like his 600-pound character. The Whale movie is the long-awaited Brendan Fraser’s comeback as a lead role after he claimed in 2018 that he was blacklisted from Hollywood after undergoing a sexual assault by the former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. We are all excited to see Brendan Fraser back on the big screen after being away for so long.

Who Stars in The Whale?

The Whale is an R-rated film based on the 2012 play of the same name by MacArthur-winning playwright Samuel D. Hunter. The Journey to the Center of the Earth actor stars as Charlie, a secluded 600-pound English teacher who suffers from morbid obesity while attempting to make a relationship with his estranged 17-year-old daughter Elle. Elle is played by none other than Sadie Sink, a breakout superstar from this year for starring in Taylor Swift’s short film/music video for All Too Well(Ten Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version) and being Max in Stranger Things since Season 2 of the series. Sadie Sink truly shined with her performance during the recent release of Stranger Things Season 4.

Brendan Fraser, whos now 53, revealed the transformation of his character Charlie was achieved through prosthetics and makeup. The Whale movie with Brendan Fraser is an A24 psychological drama running one hour and 57 minutes. The Whale is set to have its world premiere at the 79th Venice Film Festival at the end of August.

Other than The Whale being a pivotal point in the Brenaissance(aka Brendan Fraser’s come back), this film will also be the first time director Darren Aronofsky has made a movie since 2017’s Mother!, starring Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem.
