Deadline is reporting this morning that Boyd Holbrook and Shaunette Renée Wilson are the newest actors to join James Mangold’s Indiana Jones 5. Joining other notables actors as the obvious Harrison Ford, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and most recent addition, Mads Mikkelsen. As we had reported earlier, Steven Spielberg is still on board to produce, after releasing the directing reigns to James Mangold.
More New Blood Into The Indy Mix
Boyd Holbrook has worked with James Mangold before, he was in Logan where he played Donald Pierce. A cyborg-type character from the comic books who is usually an adversary to the X-Men. Holbrook’s first big role came in Milk, the biographical film based on the gay rights activist Harvey Milk.
Shaunette Renée Wilson is fairly new to the on-screen acting scene, her most notable role being on The Resident. The show premiered on Fox back in 2018. Wilson has been playing Dr. Mina Okafor for all 4 seasons. The Resident is currently in limbo as Fox has neither canceled nor renewed the show for a fifth season. Neither actor’s role in Indiana Jones 5 is yet to be detailed.
Indiana Jones 5
Plot details have been scarce, but one detail that has stirred interest is in the script itself. Jonathan Kasden replaced David Koepp as the writer for Indiana Jones 5 back in 2018. Interesting because Jonathan, who also wrote Solo: A Star Wars Story, is the son of Lawrence Kasden. Lawrence wrote Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and also got a writing credit for Solo: A Star Wars Story.
With the additions of Boyd Holbrook & Shaunette Renée Wilson, Indiana Jones 5 appears to be making room for other, younger, franchise-ready characters. If James Mangold can work his magic again, this should be the dawning of a new era for the daredevil archeologists supreme.
