Borderlands 3 will have microtransactions according to the team at Gearbox Software. Paul Sage, the creative director, announced during the live stream showing gameplay of Borderlands 3 there will cosmetic microtransactions sold. These cosmetics consist of different skins and heads for your choice of character. Randy Pitchford, the CEO of Gearbox Software stated the game will have microtransactions but without much detail to what the microtransactions entail. When confronted about this, Randy Pitchford spoke on the differences between the microtransactions for Borderlands 3 versus what is typically seen and meant by microtransactions for today’s games. As he puts it the cosmetics you can purchase in the game aren’t the same as the “F2P,” style of transactions players is already purchasing for first-person games. This, among some other issues, were discussed after the live steam event of the gameplay.
2K, the publisher behind the Borderlands series, was asked about the ways they are monetizing the game.
