Just like the pen is bounded to paper, what is an RPG without immersive roleplaying? Might and Delight, the Swedish studio that brought us the heartfelt, one-of-a-kind experiences of the Shelter games, is releasing an atmospheric RPG title known as the Book of Travels. However, this is not your typical prosaic fetch-quest, loot-ridden RPG title. It is a novel experience set in a fairytale setting that puts you on a Journey-style inspired adventure. You will occasionally walk with others on the same path and develop your own unique narrative. Shape your fate in this upcoming innovative “story generator” on August 9 for Steam Early Access.
2012’s Journey was undoubtedly one of the most gorgeous and unforgettably immersive experiences in gaming. The voiceless, thought-provoking tale told through its visuals and gameplay was something otherwordly. Meeting another player along the way and only communicating in chirps seemed simplistic but forged an indescribable bond that cannot be recreated in standard online games. Book of Travels takes this all a step further and adds a plethora of RPG elements into this mix. A system of assorted skills unique to your character, a variety of symbols for diverse communication, and a beautiful world of uncertainty that fosters authentic roleplaying and individual playstyles — all this boils into a fragrant blend of something bound to be spectacular.
Not to mention, the vast and intricate world of Braided Shore is “hand-painted,” creating a visual feast for the eyes. In addition, the oriental and early industrial aesthetics form a sense of mysticism about the legendary world. The environment holds a 3-dimensional depth that features secrets and mystery on every side. Players will be free to explore and travel as they please in the Book of Travels, as there is no quest marker pointing you where to go. The game is said to have no definite beginning or end, making every encounter of cherishable importance and causing the stakes to be all the higher for your mortal life.
That all being said, Might and Delight is an outstanding team of indie developers whose creativity goes notably far, as they’ve demonstrated with their past titles. Book of Travels will doubtless be no exception. Wishlist the game today on its Steam store page.
