Bob Odenkirk and David Cross are reuniting in a new comedy series called Mass Guru for Paramount+. The new series will use a fake documentary format and will star the duo as a pair of rival cult gurus who fight for the minds and hearts of their passionate (and deluded) followers. Bill Odenkirk will also be a member of the creative team behind this series.

Cross and Odenkirk are no strangers to doing comedy together. The two starred in Mr. Show together, a sketch comedy series that ran from 1995 to 1998. While the series didn’t have a tremendous run, it did build a cult following. The two later starred in a Netflix sketch comedy series, W/ Bob & David, which premiered in 2015. Not much is known about Mass Guru, but Paramount+ did confirm that Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm‘s director Jason Woliner will headline the series.

Odenkirk has a long history with comedy, even starring in and writing for Saturday Night Live. Outside of the realm of comedy, Odenkirk made a name for himself as a dramatic actor for his portrayal of Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. In 2021, he even became somewhat of an action star in Nobody, where he played your average everyday person who turns out to be a trained killer.

Many fans of Cross will know him from his role as Tobias Funke in Arrested Development. Cross has had a lot of success as a voice actor in films such as Megamind, and the Kung Fu Panda franchise. He has also appeared in the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Modern Family.

Bill Odenkirk, Bob’s younger brother, is credited as a writer in some of the most iconic comedy shows of all time including Tenacious D, Futurama, The Simpsons, and Netflix’s Disenchantment. Bob, Bill, and Cross will be executive producing Mass Guru along with Woliner, Marc Provissiero, Naomi Odenkirk, and Tim Sarkes.

There is no timetable for Mass Guru as it is still early in development but it will most likely be streaming exclusively on Paramount+. With this premise combined with this creative team, we could be looking at a huge hit.
