Specifically, when the patch dropped, it marked some locked chests containing these items as already having been opened. This error prevents players from opening them and receiving their contents. According to comments in threads regarding the issue, it appears that the bug can affect any chest in the game. The bug is somewhat widespread, but some players are confirming that their game is still running fine.
So far, the only reliable solution found to clear the issue is a pretty drastic one: players have to start an entirely new save file. The problem seems to hit when players load a save that saved before the patch, which triggers the mass unlocking. USgamer’s Eric Van Allen, who first reported the story, also found one player who claims to have found multiple copies of the missing items in different chests, though that doesn’t appear to be the case for everyone.
USgamer also reports that they’ve reached out to the game’s developer and publisher about the issue but haven’t yet received a response. We’ll continue following this story to see if the game’s developers discuss the problem or if any other workarounds pop up.
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will launch on Nintendo Switch on June 25, by which time the issue will hopefully get resolved.
